The Perfect Valentine's Day
A Digimon Adventure Fan Fiction
Written By: taiora4life

Tai Kamiya was thirty-two, single, had chocolate brown hair with eyes to match, a good sense of humor and would always be there through thick and thin. Any girl would've been more than happy to have a man like him. 'So why hadn't one bagged him already' you ask? Well, ever since he was four years old he'd been madly in love with a woman his own age named Sora Takenouchi. She had strawberry crimson hair with eyes to match, a beautiful figure, a sweet personality and a smile that could drive away even the worst storms. However, when the young man was fifteen Sora turned him down on Christmas Eve so she could be with his friend Matt Ishida. Ten years ago they had gotten married, and as of that day Tai Kamiya left Odaiba Japan leaving all of his posessions behind him including his Digimon partner, Agumon.
It was February 12th in the small countryside area known as Cherry Valley in southern Ontario Canada. Tai sat inside bored watching the winter snow fall. He took a deep breath and sighed to himself, "Is this weather ever gonna let up?"
The hours went by slowly torturing the poor man for something to do. Canadian television was very boring during the day time.(This is actually true about 98% of the time.) About all he ever watched was soccer games and animated sitcoms like The Simpsons and Family Guy. As evening approached he got up off the sofa and made himself some dinner.
****************************
Meanwhile back in Odaiba Japan the four DigiDestined girls were sitting in one of the local restaurants having a chat over their morning breakfast. (Note: Odaiba Japan is about 14 hours ahead of southern Ontario Canada.)
"So, how's little Michi doing?" the pink haired woman asked taking a sip of her morning coffee. (Yes, Mimi did dye her hair again.)
"Great Mimi. She's actually been sleeping the whole night the past two weeks," the woman next to her replied. She had brown hair and ruby colored eyes.
"Sure wish I had a child," Sora sighed to herself.
"Don't worry Sor'. I'm sure you'll find someone new who truly loves you, which would give you one someday," the purple haired woman beside her said, giving her friend a hug.
"Yeah Sora, Yolei's right. It might even happen tomorrow for all you know. After all, it will be Valentine's Day," the brown haired woman added cheerfully.
"I doubt that very much Kari," Sora sighed. "Nine Valentine's have gone by since I divorced Matt and nothing's happened. Also, nobody's seen or heard from your brother since he left the country on my wedding day." Suddenly a soft, almost happy look came upon her face as her memories of all the times they'd spent together throughout their childhood came flooding back. "If only I could apologize and tell him the truth..."
****************************
Tai paced back and forth asking himself the same question over and over again in his head. He looked at the airplane ticket in his hand once more. "Should I really go back to visit Odaiba? If I do I might run into one of my old friends, and then I could end up having to face Sora and Matt together... I don't want to have to suffer that nightmare all over again. Still, if I steer clear of the city and just go enjoy my old camping spot from my childhood I shouldn't run into them..." Mr. Kamiya argued with himself.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. "Mr. Tai Kamiya, it's Canada Airlines Cab Service. We're here as you requested," the man from the other side of the front door explained.
"Alright! I'll be right there!" Tai called back before grabbing his bags. "It looks like I'm going either way," he muttered to himself. Then he made sure all the windows and doors were securely locked before making his way out to the van that'd be taking him to the airport.
***************************
As the sun began to set finalizing the end of February 13th Sora stood up at the old childhood camp site watching the colors dance across the soon-to-be evening sky. The woman needed a place to think, to cry and to let her deepest memories roam free.
"Sora, you feelin' alright?" Biyomon asked softly, flying up behind her.
"Yeah, I just really need to be alone right now so I can clear my head," the woman replied signaling her Digimon partner to leave her be.
Biyomon backed off signaling Agumon to do so as well. Then they left heading back to the car at the bottom of the trail, and Sora Takenouchi was left alone once more.
Sora looked at her old digivice. The crest on it hadn't glowed since she was fifteen. "Why hasn't it lit up all these years? Is it because of what I did to Tai that Christmas seventeen years ago?" she asked herself staring at the item in her hand. Then she sighed thinking to herself, "And why did I ever marry Matt?"

+FLASHBACK BEGIN+

It was a nice spring night, and the wind blew softly across Sora's twenty-three year old face as she stood out upon the balcony enjoying the warm evening air.
"Hey Sweet Stuff, what you doin' out here so late?" Matt asked wrapping his arms around her from behind. Then he began to massage at her breasts' nipples. "We should be in bed right now havin' fun," he flirted.
Sora held back a moan from arising. As great as something like that felt physically, she just wasn't in the mood. "Not tonight Matt. I really don't feel like it."
"Oh, I think I might be able to change that," the young blonde haired man replied beginning to suck at her neck.
Sora pushed him off. "I said no Matt!" she shouted firmly.
"Why in the hell not!?" he yelled furiously. "It's been over a month since it last happened, and every time it does I never seem to remember a damn thing!" Suddenly a thought crossed the man's thoughts. "You've been cheatin' on me, haven't you!? You just get me really drunk and then tell me it happened, right!?"
Scared Sora began to back away from him into the apartment. "N-No, of course..." she began to reply terrified before she was cut off.
"Don't lie to me Sora! And either way I don't care! Get in the bedroom, on the bed and spread 'em now!"
Realizing where things were headed she made a dash for the door, but tripped to the floor grabbing her leg as she let out a screech of pain. Matt had thrown a crobar at her to stop the young woman in her tracks before she could escape.
"Oh no you don't! Didn't you hear me!?" he yelled even more before slamming her up against the china cabinet.
Sora let go another loud screech of pain. Much of the china had smashed, and the pieces of glass had cut into her back. Terrified and helpless she screamed the first thing to come to mind. "Tai! Help!"
Matt took this completely the wrong way. It only infuriated him even more. "Tai!? So, that's who you've been cheating on me with! You know where he is, don't you!? Don't you!?" He slammed her a second time into the cabinet, this time even harder than the last.
"N-No, I d-don't. Y-You're overreacting. P-Please... let m-me go. I-I c-can hard-ly breathe," Sora managed to barely reply. Tears were streaming down her cheeks, and the fear of these being her last breaths that evening consumed her mind.
"Oh, I'm not letting you out of my sight 'til I get my payback for everything," he snickered tightening his grip on her neck.
The young woman's eyes widened realizing what he was going to do to her. She had to try one last time. Screaming at the top of her lungs she shouted, "Someone, Please Help Me!"
Matt began to reach up her skirt still holding her by the neck with his other hand. Sora screeched from the pain that came next. It felt like he was cutting her with a butcher knife from inside.
Suddenly the apartment door burst open. "Let her go!" the police officer shouted pointing his gun at Matt. It was their new neighbor from down the hall.
Matt shivered slightly dropping Sora to the floor.
Catching her breath Sora scuttled off the floor and ran behind the officer. "Oh thank you ever so much Hiro," she said greatful.
"You're welcome. I heard everything from my apartment," he replied before arresting Matt and contacting the police department with his report on the situation.

+FLASHBACK END+

Suddenly Sora broke down crying. She had suppressed that memory many years ago hoping that it would never return.
**************************
Meanwhile Tai sat on the airplane looking at a magazine to help pass the time. Still, it didn't help much. He hadn't slept in two days, and was feeling very drowsy. The man shook his head trying to keep himself awake, but in the end nothing helped. Tai's head fell backwards against his seat, and the magazine slipped from his hands falling to the floor.
"Coward," he heard a familiar voice say. Tai turned his head to see Kari standing there pointing a finger at him. However, she was a young child again, no more than two or three years of age.
"I can't believe we actually let you be the leader," he heard another voice say. This time it was Izzy. He wasn't much older than Kari.
Tai looked around. He saw all his fellow DigiDestined pointing at him as young children calling him the same things over and over.
"Coward! Coward! Baby! Weakling!" they all chanted pointing at him.
Tai began to try and fight his way through the crowd of young children. As he reached the end of them they vanished, and instead of young children he was standing at his old camping spot looking at a red haired woman from behind who seemed to be crying.
"Tai... Please come back..." the woman cried letting the tears run down her face. Her breath sounded short and exhausted.
Tai knew who it was. Stunned, he stood there for a moment before finally saying something. He ran up and grabbed her wrapping his arms around her. "I'm right here Sor'. I'm sorry I left, and I promise I'll never leave you again."
Suddenly the woman shrank into a young child right in his arms and replied coldly, "No you won't! You're just a coward! You never showed when I needed you most!"
"Mr. Kamiya; Mr Kamiya," Tai heard a woman say as he felt her shake him.
He opened his eyes and looked around him. "Oh, I'm sorry. I must've drifted off," he apologized to the flight attendant.
"That's perfectly alright. However, we've landed in Japan," she explained.
Tai thanked the young woman and proceeded to get off the airplane. Remembering his dream he'd just had he muttered to himself, "Wow, is my mind ever screwed up."
After getting off he grabbed his stuff from the baggage claim and made his way out to where he'd stored his previous car the past ten years.
Tai put his things in the trunk, got in the car, and began making his way towards his old camping spot. However, along the way he began to think more and more about what his dream on the plane had meant. "Was that strange dream supposed to be a premonition of some kind? Does Sora really miss me?" he asked himself. "Nah, I must be losing it. Why am I even debating it? It was nothing more than some weird dreams. People have strange dreams all the time."
"Hey hunny, so where're you taking me next?" Tai heard a familiar voice say as he'd stopped at a red traffic light.
Mr. Kamiya gulped and turned his head to see his sister Kari and old friend TK walking together holding hands. The second the light turned green he turned the corner and parked the car. Something was telling him that if he didn't talk to her this night he'd regret it.
He got out of the car and ran around the corner pushing through the crowded sidewalk. "Hey Kari!" he called attempting to get her attention.
It worked. The woman turned her head looking around her 'til she spotted her brother amongst the numerous people around her. "Oh my God," she slipped out before waving her arms in the air shouting, "Hey Tai! Over here!"
Tai made his way through the crowd to his sister. "Hey Kar', I don't mean to keep this short, but is Sora up at the old camping spot right now?"
"Yeah, probably. She goes up there every night. Why does it matter? And where have you been all this time?"
Tai ran off shouting, "Sorry, I'll answer everything later! I promise!"
Back in the car he knew he had to head up there. "So, then maybe it wasn't just a dream..."
As the clock approached midnight he made his way up the side of the hill towards the camping spot. He'd stopped to pick up something to eat along the way and refill his gas tank.

February 14th ~ Valentine's Day

However, as Tai reached the spot he realized Sora wasn't there. The man slumped his head and sighed, "So, it was just a dream."
Then he got some blankets out of the car and proceeded inside one of the cabins for the night. However, as he walked inside he noticed two familiar figures asleep in a bunk bed set in front of him. It was Biyomon and Agumon.
Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice say sleepily, "Who's there?"
Tai turned to the right where he'd heard the voice come from. A light came on, and there was Sora sitting in bed only a few feet in front of him.
The woman rubbed her eyes in disbelief. Then pinched herself making sure it wasn't a dream. "Oh My God! Tai!" she shouted before jumping out of bed and wrapping her arms around him.
"Keep it down Sora. You don't wanna wake the others," he replied quiety returning the hug.
A tear fell down Sora's cheek. "I'm sorry. I just missed you so much."
"So, did he really attack you?"
"How'd you know about that?" the red haired woman asked curious.
"Let's just call it a sixth sense," he replied trying to act mysterious.
Sora wasn't sure what Tai had meant by that, but she really didn't care. "C'mon Tai, we can catch up in the morning. Right now, let's get some sleep."
"OK," he simply replied before getting in the same bed as Sora.
When they awoke that morning they explained everything to each other. The two of them spent Valentine's together sightseeing, playing and flirting with one another. By the end of the day Tai and Sora were engaged, the following Valentine's the couple got married.
Later on they had a baby girl, which they named Ayumi. Tai and Sora lived out the rest of their lives happy, and every year Valentine's Day they'd celebrate it emotionally, spiritually and physically to the best of their ability.

THE END
:icontaiora4life:
Konnichiwa minna-san,
This is my entry for the Taiora-Club 2006 Valentine's Day contest. I worked very hard on this. However, I feel as though I rushed the ending a little too much.

Well, the story's basically about Tai finding his strength to face going back to Japan after he left many years ago. I really don't know what else to write as a description.

9, 'cuz (Im not being mean! Please dont be offended >.<;) Yamato was somewhat out of character. Apart from that, the Taiora fluff made me really happy ^^ I could see the all of it happen, except Yamato's part. And, it was really well written and I could feel emotion ^^
